• Electric current generator is a device based on the principle of electromagnetic induction in which electrical energy is obtained by rotating the coil placed in a magnetic field by giving mechanical energy.

• Electric current generators are of the following two types-

(i) Alternating current generator

(ii) Direct current generator

 Alternating current generator (A.C. Generator)

the construction and working of the diagram

Structure of Alternating Current Generator-

Its main parts are as follows

(i) Armature or coil –

This is a coil ABCD with many turns of insulating copper wire wrapped on a cast iron structure. The armature can be rotated on its axis.

(ii) Field Magnet-

The armature is placed between two magnetic pole segments N and S, which are called field magnets. In small generators they are permanent cord magnets, but in large generators they are very strong electromagnets.

(iii) Snake Ring-

Both ends of the coil are connected by two metal rings S1 and S2, they are called snake ring. These rings remain superimposed on the structure of the armature and rotate with it.

(iv) Brush-

These are made of leaves of carbon or any metal, one end of which touches the spirals and the other ends are connected to the external circuit.

Principal :-

Electric current generator is a device based on the principle of electromagnetic induction in which electrical energy is obtained by rotating the coil placed in a magnetic field by giving mechanical energy.

Diagram :-

Working of Alternating Current Generator -

When the armature is rotated in a magnetic field on its axis of rotation with a mechanical energy source, the value of the magnetic flux associated with the armature ABCD changes

continuously due to which an induced electromotive force is generated between the two ends of the coil. Is. By rotating the armature, the coil repeatedly comes in a position perpendicular and parallel to the magnetic field. Since the amount of flux increases in half of the rotations and decreases in the second half, the current is clockwise on the load in the first half of rotations and counter-clockwise in the next half rotations. In other words, for half the rotation, bush B is the positive electrode and B is the negative electrode and for the other half rotation, B is the negative and B is the positive electrode. In this way the direction of current changes after a certain time in one complete rotation of armature and during this time the value of current also changes regularly, such current is called alternating current.

Note

The value of the electric current generated by the alternating current generator depends on the number of turns in the coil, the area of the coil, the speed of rotation and the intensity of the magnetic field.
